TSX Still Down Around 40 Points Mid-Afternoon As Materials, Info Tech Continue Decline

The TSX was still down around 40 points in the mid-afternoon session, with all major sectors in the red, led by the materials and info tech groups.

In resources, the materials sector eased 1.20%, negatively impacted by falling silver prices . Energy shares, on the other hand, edged off 0.23% after Brent crude slipped below US$64-per-barrel levels, given pressures from a recovering U.S. dollar.

Info tech was the weakest group, dropping 1.30%. Other notable decliners were healthcare, off 0.82%, and telecoms, shedding 0.78%.

Total volume traded stood at 201.1 million shares. Pacific Rubiales Energy (PRE.TO) was the most heavily traded stock.
