The TSX was slightly lower in the mid-afternoon session, pressured by the continued weakness in healthcare stocks.

Commodity prices were mixed on Thursday, and Action Economics said the dollar edged higher following the mix of data, where housing starts were stronger, jobless claims were lower, and the Philly Fed index was off the charts higher.

Meanwhile, Bombardier (BBD-B.TO) shed 2% after reporting wider-than-expected losses for Q4 while reaffirming its guidance for the year. Encana (ECA.TO), on the other hand, fell 2% despite above-forecast Q4 earnings.

Healthcare retreated by 2.2%, while energy slipped by 0.4%. Mining and metals dropped 0.1% and 1.6%, respectively.

Total volume traded was 271.8 million shares. Bombardier was the most actively traded stock.
