TSX rises  0.40 percent to 16,230.04

* The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX .GSPTSE rose 65.43 points, or 0.40 percent, to 16,230.04.

* Leading the index were Aphria Inc APHA.TO, up 14.6 percent, Canfor Corp CFP.TO, up 5.1 percent, and New Gold Inc NGD.TO, higher by 4.7 percent.

* Lagging shares were Uni-Select Inc UNS.TO, down 4.3 percent, Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd TRQ.TO, down 3.8 percent, and Eldorado Gold Corp ELD.TO, lower by 3.5 percent.

* On the TSX 136 issues rose and 100 fell as a 1.4-to-1 ratio favored advancers. There were 13 new highs and 11 new lows, with total volume of 191.1 million shares.

* The most heavily traded shares by volume were Manulife Financial Corp MFC.TO, Enbridge Inc ENB.TO and Aphria Inc APHA.TO.

* The TSX's energy group .SPTTEN rose 0.61 points, or 0.4 percent, while the financials sector .SPTTFS climbed 2.35 points, or 0.8 percent.

* West Texas Intermediate crude futures CLc1 rose 1.71 percent, or $0.99, to $58.9 a barrel. Brent crude LCOc1 rose 2.04 percent, or $1.38, to $69.14 O/R

* The TSX is up 13.3 percent for the year.
