TSX Posts Bigger Gains Mid-Afternoon, Up 41 Points, As Resources Bounce Higher
The TSX greeted afternoon with bigger gains after mining and energy stocks took a turn for the better, with gold and natural gas prices rebounding. The benchmark index rose 41 points, or 0.3%, to 14,750.32.
Energy led the way for gainers, marching ahead 0.57%, after being a downer since morning. The sector benefited from a 0.80% rise in natural gas prices. Miners, on the other hand, jumped 0.49% on the back of higher gold and copper prices . Telecom, the best performer at midday, was up 0.33%, still on boost from BCE (BCE.TO) that hit record highs after an IT services contract signed with CGI Group (GIB-A.TO).
On the other side of the fence were info tech and healthcare, down 0.57% and 0.75%, respectively.
Trading volume was so far more than 181 million shares. BlackBerry (BB.TO) remained the most heavily traded stock.
