TSX Pares Earlier Gains to 32 Points Mid-Afternoon As Healthcare, Info Tech Slide

The TSX gave back some of its earlier gains after healthcare and info tech shares extended their decline. The benchmark index was up 32 points in the mid-afternoon session.

Commodity prices benefited after the dollar took a beating from weak U.S. services sector data. Also helping commodities, China, a major energy and industrial metal consumer, said the Caixin services purchasing managers index rose to 52.4 in January, from 50.2 in December.

The mining and energy groups were ahead 5.1% and 2.2%, respectively. On the other side, healthcare shed 2% while info tech retreated 1.%.

Total volume traded already exceeded 308 million shares. Telesta Therapeutics (TST.TO) was the most actively traded stock.
