TSX Pares Earlier Gain, Up 35 Points Mid-Afternoon, As Info Tech, Miners Drag

The TSX was up 35 points mid-afternoon after giving back some of its earlier gains, reaching 14647.34.

Rising crude oil prices continued to support the commodity-sensitive index, while recent comments from U.S. Fed Chairwoman Janet Yellen weigh on sentiments. She reportedly said the geopolitical crisis and weak housing data are threats to the U.S. economy.

Telecom was the biggest gainer after rising 1%. Energy shares were up 0.7% after crude oil prices remained above $100 levels. And the heavyweight financial sector was up 0.5%.

In the negative territory, info tech tumbled more than 2%, with BlackBerry (BB.TO) slumping 6%. Miners were down 1.7%, dragged down by gold prices .
