TSX Little Changed at Midday; Miners, Healthcare Offset Financials
The TSX was barely changed at midday and was up by a little over 4 points, with mining and healthcare shares cancelling out the negative impact of financial stocks.
In the news was Dominion Diamond (DDC.TO), which surged 21% recently after it said it is open for a dialogue to tackle its policies that certain investors claim to have unduly hurt its stocks.
Meanwhile, both Brent and the WTI remained in the green as traders close their positions. Outlook for 2016, however, remains bearish, especially after the OPEC refused to cut and put a ceiling to production. Brent was last up 0.2% at US$36.41/barrel, while the WTI rose 1.6% to US$36.37/barrel.
The mining and healthcare groups climbed 2.4% and 0.8%, respectively. Energy shares were up by just 0.1%. Financials shed 0.5%.
Total volume traded so far reached 138.1 million shares. Teck Resources (TCK-B.TO) was the most actively traded stock.
