TSX Grows Earlier Gains to 89 Points at Midday As Resources Climb on Rising Commodities; Financials Also Higher

The TSX climbed further at midday, gaining 89 points near a day high of 14,972.66, supported by firmer resource and financial stocks.

Miners popped 5.92% while energy producers jumped 0.96%, after a weaker U.S. dollar helped lift commodity prices. The greenback lost strength after the U.S. Federal Reserve hinted it is in no rush to raise key rates. Brent crude was back above US$55-per-barrel mark, having risen 1.49%, while gold moved up 1% to US$1,183.10 an ounce.

Financials were also ahead almost 1%.

Meanwhile, downward movers were moderately lower, with leaders healthcare and info tech shedding only 0.61% and 0.45%, respectively.

Total volume traded already exceeded 246 million shares. Manulife (MFC.TO) was the most heavily traded stock.
