TSX Flat at Midday, Up 27 Points; Healthcare, Resource Stocks Rally

Canada's benchmark index posted a small gain of 27 points at midday, boosted by healthcare and resource stocks. The TSX settled at 15,145.45, near an intraday high of 15,152.44.

Healthcare stocks climbed 1.46%, led by Tekmira Pharmaceuticals (TKM.TO) that surged almost 32% after reports said that U.S. regulators partially lifted a hold on the company's experimental Ebola drug. On the other hand, miners and energy were up 0.53% and 0.81%, respectively, as the worsening violence in Iraq and the upbeat Chinese trade data helped lift commodity prices.

Meanwhile, info tech led the decliners after losing 0.60%. It was followed by financials, which were down by 0.52%, with shares in Toronto Dominion Bank (TD.TO) falling almost 1%.

More than 112 million shares have changed hands so far. Horizon North Logistics (HNL.TO) was the most actively traded.
