TSX Close: Toronto Stocks Finish Higher as Energy Issues Advance

The Toronto stock market closed in positive territory despite some early selling pressure and weak earnings reports from several heavily-weighted companies.

The S&P TSX Composite Index finished the Thursday trading session 34 points higher to 12145.85, a gain of 0.3%.

Energy stocks were higher, paced by heavily-traded Encana Corp (ECA.TO) and Husky Energy (HSE.TO), whose lower quarterly profits still beat analyst expectations.

Potash Corporation (POT.TO), Domtar Corp. (UFS.TO) and Goldcorp (G.TO) all reported quarterly earnings that failed to meet predictions.
