TSX up 58 Points With Healthcare, Miners, Posting The Biggest Gains

The TSX is up on the first day of trading in 2018 -- up 58 points with healthcare and miners posting the biggest gains. Cannimed (CMED.TO), subject of an attempted takeover attempt by Aurora Cannabis (ACB.TO) has struck a supply deal with Up Cannabis.

Miners are up 1.7%, boosted by higher gold and silver prices , against a weakening greenback.

Energy is also in the green, adding 1.09%.

Meanwhile, the Markit Canada PMI, a measure of manufacturing business conditions, rose to a seasonally adjusted 54.7 in December from 54.4 the previous month.
