TSX up 55 Points as Miners, Energy, Lead; Healthcare The Biggest Decliner
The TSX is up 70 points this morning with miners and energy posting the biggest gains. Miners are up 2.4%, followed by energy, up 1.45%.
Healthcare is the biggest decliner, down 0.86%.
StatsCan data released on Tuesday showed that economic growth picked up in the first quarter. GDP grew at a 2.4% annualized rate in the quarter, lower than the 2.8% forecast by the Bank of Canada. However, it marked a rebound from a downwardly revised 0.5% in the fourth quarter.
The second quarter is expected to be hit by the disruption to oil sands production after wildfires in Alberta.
