TSX Up 35 Points to New High as Materials Boost Gains

The TSX is up 35 points this morning to a record high with most sectors in the green. The biggest gainer is the mining sector, adding 0.83% as copper prices rise 0.9% to US$2.793.

Action Economics said copper touched 21-month highs as BHP Billiton declares force majeure due to strikes and vandalism at mines in Chile. In addition, stronger China trade data reported late last week has helped support prices.

Healthcare is the second biggest gainer, up 0.77%.

The biggest decliner is utilities, down 0.49%, followed by energy, down 0.38%. Crude oil is now trading at US$53.13 per bbl.
