TSX Up 32 Points Mid-Afternoon As Energy, Healthcare Extend Climb
The TSX rose 32 points in the mid-afternoon session as energy and healthcare stocks continued to climb.
Both Brent and the WTI were in the green after Russia reportedly confirmed consultations with Saudi Arabia and other producers about achieving market stability. At last check, Brent jumped 2.6% to US$48.18/barrel, while the WTI surged 2.7% to US$45.67/barrel.
Valeant (VRX.TO) jumped Monday after Mizuho upgraded the stock to neutral from underperform while increasing the target price to $25 from $10.
Healthcare and energy advanced 1.3% and 1.1%, respectively. On the negative side were telecom and utilities, down 0.3% and 0.1%, respectively.
Total volume traded was 182.6 million shares. Baytex Energy (BTE.TO) was the most actively traded stock.
