TSX at 2pm: TSX Rises on Positive Economic News from China, U.S.

The Toronto stock market was higher in afternoon trading as resource stocks advanced in the wake of several upbeat economic reports from China and the United States.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index was up 73 points at 12,496, close to session highs of 12,506.

Most of the TSX's sub-sectors were in positive territory, paced by information technology, energy and materials. Only the telecom sector was in the red.

Heavily traded Barrick Gold (ABX.TO) was off 9% after net profits fell to $620 million, less than half of what the gold miner earned in the same period last year.
