TSX at 2pm: TSX Higher as Resource Stocks Rebound

The Toronto stock market was higher in afternoon trading as resource stocks staged a modest recovery in a challenging week highlighted by economic growth worries, which have punished commodity prices.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index gained 72 points to 12,019, just off session highs of 12,036.

The materials sector led advancers with a 3% increase as gold stocks climbed. Energy stocks boosted the sector by about 2%.

Heavily traded Eastern Platinum (ELR.TO) fell 13%, Barrick Gold (ABX.TO) was up 1% while Osisko Mining (OSK.TO) added 5%.
