TSX at 2pm: TSX Higher as Commodity Prices Rise on Mixed Economic News

The Toronto stock market was higher in afternoon trading as commodity prices advanced in the wake of some mixed economic news from the United States and Europe.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index gained 39 points to 12,085, retreating from session highs of 12,103.

Technology and materials issues were higher, offset by losses in consumer, utilities and energy stocks.

Heavily traded Talison Lithium (TLH.TO) fell 7% following news the company will formally consider a takeover offer from China's Chengdu Tianqi.
