TSX At 10am -- Down Nearly 18 Points, Though Hit Another New High Earlier; Miners The Biggest Gainer

The TSX hit another new high this morning, of 15409, but is now down 14 points on predominantly positive sectors. Miners are the biggest gainers this morning, adding 1.4%, as Potash Corp (POT.TO) and Teck Resources (TCK-B.TO) both released their earnings results this morning.

Energy is the biggest loser this morning, down 0.2%.

The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits fell to the lowest level in nearly 8.5 years last week. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits declined 19,000 to a seasonally adjusted 284,000 for the week ended July 19, the Labor Department reported Thursday.
