The TSX is down 40 points at 10am, with most sectors bar info tech, in the red. Healthcare is the biggest loser this morning, shedding 0.71%, followed by telecom, which is down 0.3%.
Info tech is the sole gainer, up 0.22%.
The value of building permits issued rose in April, the first time since January, but still fell short of expectations as a drop in non-residential construction plans partially offset a gain in housing.
Builders took out $6 billion worth of permits in April, up 1.1% from the previous month. Statistics Canada also revised the March decrease in permits to 3.2% from 3%.
China's services sector fell to a four-month low in May. The services purchasing managers' index (PMI) compiled by HSBC/Markit slipped to 50.7 in May from April's 51.4.
