TSX At 10am -- Up 45 Points, Miners In The Lead; Boosted By Robust Chinese PMI Data

The TSX is up 45 points this morning on broadly positive sectors. Miners are by far the biggest gainers, up 1.25%, pulled up by higher commodities prices. Telecom is the next biggest gainers, up 0.7%.

China's factory activity expanded at the fastest pace in five months. The official Purchasing Managers' Index rose to 50.8 in May from April's 50.4, the National Bureau of Statistics reported yesterday.

However, manufacturing news in Canada was a little less upbeat. The RBC Canadian Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' index (PMI) declined to a seasonally adjusted 52.2 last month from 52.9 in April. May's reading was the lowest level since January. The index was also below its historical average of 53.3.
