(Washington)
There has been weeks of back and forth about whether the president may have audio recordings of his conversations with fired FBI director James Comey. The firing led to a special counsel being appointed to investigate Trump and his administration's ties to Russia. However, Trump has now finally answered the question of whether he has recordings of the conversations: no. Interestingly though, Trump did not rule out that such recordings may exist. He said "With all of the recently reported electronic surveillance, intercepts, unmasking and illegal leaking of information, I have no idea whether there are 'tapes' or recordings of my conversations with James Comey … But I did not make, and do not have, any such recordings".
FINSUM : So Trump does not have the tapes. He said early on he wanted them so he could clear himself, but it seems increasingly likely they do not exist.
