Toronto Stocks Turn Negative, Led By Some Weak Mining, Energy Stocks

Toronto stocks have turned negative on some weakness in mining and energy stocks. The index was up 44 points around 11 am ET.

Looking at the top 12 most actively traded stocks, Equinox (EQN.TO) is down 3%, UTS Energy (UTS.TO) is 1% lower, Eastern Platinum Ltd. (ELR.TO) is down 1.95 and Cenovus Energy (CVE.TO) is down 5%, Uranium One (UUU.TO) is 0.4% lower and Kinross Gold (K.TO) is down 0.3%.

Long term, the attraction of Canada for investors, not least stock pickers, was reinforced today with the Conference Board of Canada saying the federal government's books will be balanced by 2015, a full year ahead of schedule, thanks to strong economic growth.
