Top 10 list of unusual option activity

Nearing the halfway mark in today's session, here are the top 10 names showing unusual option activity on tradeMONSTER's LiveAction data system.

Assuarant (AIZ): Option volume 1,851 percent above average. An investor rolled 1,875 September 32.50 calls to the September 30 strike at a net cost of $2.10, hoping for upside. AIZ fell 2.81 percent to $32.87.

Armstrong World Holdings (AWI): Option volume 1,045 percent above average. The September 35 puts and September 40 puts traded heavily against existing open interest. AWI fell 2.24 percent to $33.17.

Affymax (AFFY): Option volume 816 percent above average. An investor sold 2,250 October 5 calls for $0.70 and $0.65, calling a top in the drug developer. AFFY fell 6.94 percent to $4.83.

Vornado Realty (VNO): Option volume 637 percent above average. A short position in the September 80 puts was rolled to the September 75 strike. VNO fell 2.83 percent to $77.82.

Exeter Resource (XRA): Option volume 600 percent above average. The February 5 calls and the August 5 calls traded against heavy open interest. XRA rose 0.71 percent to $4.11.

  • Williams Partners (WPZ): Option volume 480 percent above average.
