Top 10 list of unusual option activity

Nearing the halfway mark in today's session, here are the top 10 names showing unusual option activity on tradeMONSTER's LiveAction data system.

National Semiconductor (NSM): Option volume 3,450 percent above average. An investor bought 10,000 September 24 calls for $0.85, looking for upside. NSM fell 0.37 percent to $24.54.

NiSource (NI): Option volume 2,787 percent above average. More than 5,000 September 20 calls were bought for $0.90 to $1.15 as investors look for upside. NI fell 1.99 percent to $20.20.

Mindray Medical (MR): Option volume 1,548 percent above average. Some 4,400 August 25 calls were purchased, mostly for $1.80 and $2.30. MR fell 0.46 percent to $26.03.

Cooper Tire & Rubber (CTB): Option volume 793 percent above average. Investors bought the August 12.50 puts and the August 12.50 calls. CTB fell 28 percent to $11.81.

Liberty Media Starz (LSTZA): Option volume 720 percent above average. More than 1,500 January 70 puts were bought for $3.50. LSTZA fell 1.73 percent to $74.76.

  • Auxilium Pharmaceuticals (AUXL): Option volume 716 percent above average.
  • Entropic Communications (ENTR): Option volume 683 percent above average.
  • Leap Wireless (LEAP): Option volume 670 percent above average.
  • MetroPCS Communications (PCS): Option volume 642 percent above average.
  • Dendreon (DNDN): Option volume 629 percent above average.
