Top 10 list of unusual option activity

Nearing the halfway mark in today's session, here are the top 10 names showing unusual option activity on tradeMONSTER's LiveAction data system.

Lubrizol (LZ): Option volume 934 percent above average. An investor sold 11,582 August 135 puts for $0.50, looking for the shares to hold their ground or inch higher. LZ fell 0.05 percent to $134.65.

Resmed (RMD): Option volume 911 percent above average. An investor sold 1,478 August 35 calls for $0.20 to $0.30. RMD fell 1.46 percent to $29.74.

MetroPCS Communications (PCS): Option volume 828 percent above average. Investors bought puts and sold calls as the stock plummeted lower. PCS cratered 30 percent to $11.29.

Hertz Global Holdings (HTZ): Option volume 785 percent above average. More than 14,000 September 15 calls were purchased for $0.65 to $0.75 as investors positioned for a rebound. HTZ fell 4.59 percent to $13.30.

II VI (IIVI): Option volume 581 percent above average. More than 1,000 August 27.50 puts were sold against open interest, likely the result of a position being closed. IIVI fell 11 percent to $22.43.

Rounding out the rest of the top 10 are:

  • Manitowoc (MTW): Option volume 528 percent above average.
  • iShares Nasdaq Biotechnology Index (IBB): Option volume 525 percent above average.
  • Domtar (UFS): Option volume 504 percent above average.
  • Infinera (INFN): Option volume 492 percent above average.
  • Ocwen Financial (OCN): Option volume 481 percent above average.
