Thursday Sector Leaders: Energy, Services

Looking at the sectors faring best as of midday Thursday, shares of Energy companies are outperforming other sectors, higher by 0.6%. Within that group, Marathon Oil Corp. (Symbol: MRO) and ConocoPhillips (Symbol: COP) are two of the day's stand-outs, showing a gain of 8.6% and 2.1%, respectively. Among energy ETFs , one ETF following the sector is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLE), which is up 0.5% on the day, and up 13.67% year-to-date. Marathon Oil Corp., meanwhile, is up 17.78% year-to-date, and ConocoPhillips is up 11.44% year-to-date. Combined, MRO and COP make up approximately 7.5% of the underlying holdings of XLE.

The next best performing sector is the Services sector, higher by 0.4%. Among large Services stocks, Dish Network Corp (Symbol: DISH) and CBS Corp (Symbol: CBS) are the most notable, showing a gain of 3.2% and 2.1%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Services stocks is the iShares U.S. Consumer Services ETF ( IYC ), which is up 0.2% in midday trading, and up 9.68% on a year-to-date basis. Dish Network Corp, meanwhile, is up 19.26% year-to-date, and CBS Corp is up 13.08% year-to-date. Combined, DISH and CBS make up approximately 0.7% of the underlying holdings of IYC.
