Thursday Sector Laggards: Technology & Communications, Healthcare

In afternoon trading on Thursday, Technology & Communications stocks are the worst performing sector, not showing much of a gain. Within the sector, Synopsys Inc (Symbol: SNPS) and Ansys Inc. (Symbol: ANSS) are two of the day's laggards, showing a loss of 3.3% and 2.6%, respectively. Among technology ETFs , one ETF following the sector is the Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLK), which is up 0.2% on the day, and up 4.74% year-to-date. Synopsys Inc, meanwhile, is up 0.36% year-to-date, and Ansys Inc. is up 7.96% year-to-date. Combined, SNPS and ANSS make up approximately 0.4% of the underlying holdings of XLK.

The next worst performing sector is the Healthcare sector, higher by 0.2%. Among large Healthcare stocks, AmerisourceBergen Corp. (Symbol: ABC) and IQVIA Holdings Inc (Symbol: IQV) are the most notable, showing a loss of 1.5% and 1.3%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Healthcare stocks is the Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLV ), which is up 0.2% in midday trading, and up 1.94% on a year-to-date basis. AmerisourceBergen Corp., meanwhile, is up 6.18% year-to-date, and IQVIA Holdings Inc is up 0.57% year-to-date. Combined, ABC and IQV make up approximately 1.0% of the underlying holdings of XLV.
