Thursday Sector Laggards: Materials, Services

In afternoon trading on Thursday, Materials stocks are the worst performing sector, showing a 0.6% loss. Within the sector, CF Industries Holdings Inc (Symbol: CF) and Nucor Corp. (Symbol: NUE) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 4.0% and 3.5%, respectively. Among the high volume ETFs , one ETF closely following materials stocks is the Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLB), which is down 0.5% on the day, and down 1.10% year-to-date. CF Industries Holdings Inc, meanwhile, is down 4.70% year-to-date, and Nucor Corp. is up 5.41% year-to-date. Combined, CF and NUE make up approximately 4.9% of the underlying holdings of XLB.

The next worst performing sector is the Services sector, showing a 0.4% loss. Among large Services stocks, Kroger Co (Symbol: KR) and L Brands, Inc (Symbol: LB) are the most notable, showing a loss of 12.1% and 5.1%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Services stocks is the iShares U.S. Consumer Services ETF ( IYC ), which is up 0.1% in midday trading, and up 4.89% on a year-to-date basis. Kroger Co , meanwhile, is down 15.52% year-to-date, and L Brands, Inc, is down 29.69% year-to-date. Combined, KR and LB make up approximately 0.9% of the underlying holdings of IYC.
