Thursday Sector Laggards: Energy, Services

In afternoon trading on Thursday, Energy stocks are the worst performing sector, showing a 0.6% loss. Within that group, Schlumberger Ltd (Symbol: SLB) and Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. (Symbol: COG) are two of the day's laggards, showing a loss of 3.6% and 2.9%, respectively. Among energy ETFs , one ETF following the sector is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLE), which is down 0.4% on the day, and up 18.11% year-to-date. Schlumberger Ltd, meanwhile, is up 28.06% year-to-date, and Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. is up 17.81% year-to-date. Combined, SLB and COG make up approximately 5.8% of the underlying holdings of XLE.

The next worst performing sector is the Services sector, up 0.1%. Among large Services stocks, Lowe's Companies Inc (Symbol: LOW) and PayPal Holdings Inc (Symbol: PYPL) are the most notable, showing a loss of 2.8% and 2.1%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Services stocks is the iShares U.S. Consumer Services ETF ( IYC ), which is up 0.1% in midday trading, and up 18.96% on a year-to-date basis. Lowe's Companies Inc, meanwhile, is up 23.79% year-to-date, and PayPal Holdings Inc is up 26.67% year-to-date. LOW makes up approximately 2.6% of the underlying holdings of IYC.
