Technology stocks were hanging on to small gains Thursday, with shares of tech companies in the S&P 500 rising more than 0.2% while the Philadelphia semiconductor index ( SOX ) was climbing almost 0.6% in recent trading.

Internet service providers were mixed Thursday ahead of an expected vote today by the Republican-led Federal Communications Commission to repeal so-called net neutrality rules adopted in 2015 intended to keep telecom companies from speeding up or slowing down online traffic from specific websites and applications. The agency also is eliminating a rule barring providers from prioritizing their own content. The upcoming decision has generated fierce opposition in some circles, with those advocates next expected to take their fight to the federal courts.

+ Social Reality ( SRAX ) shares climbed almost 11%, reaching a session high of $5.66 apiece, after the digital advertising company disclosed plans to develop a data-management platform compensating individuals for the sale and distribution of their consumer data.

+ Messaging software reseller OneHorizon Group ( OHGI ) rose over 20%, reaching a session high of $1.29 a share after saying it acquired a majority stake in 123Wish, a subscription-based social media platform allowing users to participate in personalized dream experiences with artists, athletes and other celebrities. Financial terms were not disclosed, although OneHorizon said the deal should add to its per-share earnings following an expected Q1 close.
- Networking equipment manufacturer ClearOne ( CLRO ) received a US patent for its conferencing technology, which helps to improve the transmission and reception of audio with spatial information, boosting intelligibility and reducing listener fatigue.
