Technology stocks were ending with small gains on Wednesday, with shares of tech companies in the S&P 500 rising over 0.1% while the Philadelphia semiconductor index ( SOX ) was climbing almost 0.2%.
Among technology stocks moving on news today:
+ Advanced Micro Devices ( AMD ) climbed almost 3% today after the chipmaker announced a new partnership with Chinese language internet search provider Baidu ( BIDU ) to sell AMD-powered artificial intelligence, big data and cloud computing services. Baidu will begin using AMD EYPC processors at its global datacenters beginning during the first three months of 2018, the companies said.
In other sector news:
+ Comtech ( CMTL ) climbed almost 8% to reach a session high of $22.46 a share after the networking equipment company said its Xicom subsidiary has received an order valued at more than $9.4 mln to build solid-state power amplifers for use in airborne, in-flight connectivity applications.
- Helios and Matheson Analytics ( HMNY ) dropped over 38%, sinking to a session low of $6.21 a share after today pricing a $60 mln best-efforts offering of over 9.23 mln shares or pre-funded warrants at $6.50 each. Investors also received an equal number of five-year warrants to buy an extra share for $7.25 apiece.
