Stocks Set to Close Little Changed as Earnings Season Picks Up Steam

Various market performance charts

Stocks were indicated to close narrowly mixed Tuesday as the financial sector outperformed the rest of the market as earnings season intensifies.

In late trading, financial companies in the S&P 500 were climbing 1.4% as a group and were the best performing sector in the index. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up less than 0.1%, while the S&P 500 was down 0.2%. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up fractionally. Dragging the S&P 500 down were steep losses in real estate, healthcare and utilities.
