Stocks Firm Ahead of FOMC
Led higher by strength in the energy sector, a stable Russian ruble and bottom-fishing after three days of steep losses, U.S. equities were higher Tuesday as the financial markets firm before the conclusion of the final Federal Open Market Committee meeting for 2014. While the market consensus is split on whether the FOMC will drop language suggesting a "considerable time" before raising rates, Wall Street is confident the policy panel will endorse the ability of the U.S. to weather economic turbulence from Europe and Asia.
