Stock Futures Struggle to Rebound as Geopolitical and Environmental Risks Linger

Stock futures were straddling the flatline ahead of Wednesday's open showing faint signs of optimism despite Tuesday's crushing sell-off and oppressive fundamentals that include persistent geopolitical risks, another catastrophic hurricane churning in the Atlantic and political gridlock in Washington. Dow futures indicate a modest gain at the open with Nasdaq futures outperforming.

Coming up at 8:30 am ET, data on the U.S. balance of trade is expected to show a wider deficit of $44.6 billion in July from a $43.6 billion deficit in June.
