South African platinum producer Royal Bafokeng Platinum said on Tuesday its half-year loss expanded, weighed down by a weaker rand and rise in platinum group metal prices.

JOHANNESBURG, Aug 6 (Reuters) - South African platinum producer Royal Bafokeng Platinum RBPJ.J said on Tuesday its half-year loss expanded, weighed down by a weaker rand and rise in platinum group metal prices.

The firm reported a headline loss per share (HLPS) of 70.8 cents for the six months ended June 30, compared with a loss per share of 12.4 cents a year ago.

HLPS is the main profit/loss gauge in South Africa, which strips out certain one-off items.
