Sigma-Aldrich CorporationSIAL declared that the Cerilliant brand under its Applied Diagnostics and Testing business segment has unveiled its new bile acid reference standards product portfolio. This includes 10 certified Snap-N-Spike solutions of the most routinely tested bile acids and their stable-labeled internal standards.

These new certified reference materials (CRMs) comprise lithocholic acid, taurocholic acid and native and deuterium-labeled analogs of cholic acid, chenodeoxycholic acid, deoxycholic acid, and ursodeoxycholic acid.

The bile acid metabolism's influence in the development of gastroenterologic and hepatic diseases has been well highlighted in studies. This resulted in increased demand for new bile acid testing applications.

Cerilliant's portfolio comprises a broad range of Certified Spiking Solutions for use as starting material in the preparation of calibrators and controls in testing applications, from clinical diagnostic testing, endocrinology, and clinical chemistry to therapeutic drug monitoring, clinical toxicology, and pharmaceutical research.

Sigma-Aldrich recently announced that its Cerilliant brand will provide the first-ever reference solutions for qualitative assessment of drug interferences while testing by analytical methods in a laboratory. Revenues from Sigma-Aldrich's Applied unit rose 3% to $178 million in second-quarter 2015. The Diagnostics and Testing business contributed to organic sales gain during the quarter.

The company is well on track with the completion of its proposed acquisition by Germany's Merck KGaA. The transaction is now expected to close within the next two months.

Shares of Sigma-Aldrich ticked up roughly 0.03% to close at $139.61 last Thursday.
