Self-Driving Cars: Ford Wants to Make Windshield Entertainment System

Ford (NYSE: F ) announced that it wants to make an autonomous windshield entertainment system .

The feature is designed for self-driving cars, offering a ceiling-mounted projector with a roll-down screen in front of the windshield that shows a movie or TV show while the vehicle is driving itself.

The move is part of Ford's transition "from being an auto company to an auto and a mobility company," CEO Mark Fields said at CES in January. The company is creating drones, apps, self-driving vehicles and more.

The automaker is expanding its number of autonomous cars from 10 to 30, and it is running tests in Michigan, Arizona and California later this year.

F stock is down 0.8% Wednesday.
