Citigroup ( C ) shares were up 0.5% pre-market as the banking giant nears a deal with the Justice Department to pay about $7 billion to settle allegations related to mortgage sales that took place in the time leading up to the financial crisis, according to reports from multiple news organizations including The Wall Street Journal and Reuters that cited unnamed sources familiar with the matter.
A settlement could be announced as early as next week.
