Sector Update: Health Care

Health-care shares were mixed in pre-market trade Thursday.

In health-care stocks news, BioLineRx ( BLRX ) rises after the company says it received a U.S. patent notice for BL-7010, a novel polymer in preventing or decreasing gluten's deleterious effects on the gastrointestinal mucosa. This patent, when issued, will be valid until at least 2026.

And, Galena Biopharma, Inc. ( GALE ), a biopharmaceutical company developing oncology treatments said that Mark W. Schwartz, Ph.D., has been appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Dr. Schwartz was previously Galena's Chief Operating Officer.

Dr. Schwartz replaces Mark J. Ahn, Ph.D. who has resigned as the President and CEO and as a director of the company to pursue other long held personal and professional goals. It is expected that Dr. Schwartz will also be appointed to Galena's Board of Directors.

GALE trades in a 52-week range of $1.66 to $7.77.
