Sector Update: Gold, Silver Miners Higher as Precious Metals Gain on Poor U.S. Jobs Data

Gold and silver producers dominate the early leaders' board for TSX stock today, with bullion futures climbing nearly 3% after government data showed U.S. employers failed to add any net new jobs during August.

Silver miners Newsun Resources (NSU.TO) and Endeavour Silver (EDR.TO) both were ahead over 4% in initial trading with several smaller to mid-sized gold stocks adding more than 6%.

Golden Star (GSC.TO), which yesterday said it was restarting operations at its mine in Ghana, is ahead nearly 7$ at $2.50 a share, with Aurizon Mines (ARZ.TO) gaining 6.6% at $6.61 a share. Volta Resources (VTR.TO) was up 5.5% at $1.71 a share.
