Sector Update: Financial Shares Dip Ahead of Housing Market Report

Financial shares were lower in pre-market trade Monday ahead of a housing market report from the National Association of Realtors.

In financial stocks news, Banco Santander ( SAN ) reportedly has reached a deal to buy the units of GE Money Nordic Holding AB in Sweden, Denmark and Norway, for around 700 million euros ($952 million).

The deal is expected to be closed in the second half of this year.

And, Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS, BNS.TO) Friday said it acquired 51% controlling interest in the financial services business of Cencosud, distributor of credit cards and consumer loans in Chile, for C$300 million, making the Canadian lender the third largest credit card provider in Chile.

The bank also entered into a 15-year partnership arrangement with Cencosud to manage the credit card business and provide additional products and services to customers of both organizations.
