Energy shares are mixed in mid-day trading while crude oil futures jump top $100 a barrel.

Light, sweet crude oil for September delivery is trading up 1.19% to $100.38 a barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil is up 0.89% to $3.13 a gallon while natural gas is down 1.12% to $4.33 per million British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) is up 1.19% to $39.14. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) is down 0.64% at $10.92.

In mid-day news, Valero Energy ( VLO ) is down after reporting Q2 EPS of $1.30, missing analyst expectations by $0.14. The losses came after wider-than-expected losses at its Canadian refinery,Bloomberg reported.

In March, Valero announced plans to acquire Chevron's Pembroke plant in the U.K. for $1.73 billion.

Valero shares are down 0.34%, or $0.09, to $26.59.
