Sector Update: Energy Shares Mixed in Late Trading; Crude Oil Manages Positive Finish

Energy shares are mixed in late-session trading as crude oil managed to finish the session higher but just under $89 a barrel.

Light, sweet crude oil for October delivery finished up 0.1% to $88.96 a barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil was down 0.82% to $3.05 a gallon while natural gas was down 0.57% to $4.03 per million British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) is up 0.29% to $34.61. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) is down 0.68% to $10.15.

In late-session energy news, Exxon Mobil ( XOM ) and BP ( BP ) are evacuating personnel from platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, Bloomberg reported. Earlier, Chevron ( CVX ) said it was evacuating workers from its operations in the Gulf of Mexico due to a tropical disturbance over the center of the area, Reuters reported.

CVX is up 0.6%. XOM is up 0.01%. BP is down 3.4%.
