Sector Update: Energy Shares Mixed; Crude Oil Futures Trade Above $83 a Barrel

Energy shares are mixed in mid-day trading while crude oil futures bounce back fractionally from yesterday's plunge to trade above $83 a barrel.

Light, sweet crude oil for September delivery traded up 0.87% to $83.07 a barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil was up 1.3% to $2.91 a gallon while natural gas was up 1.39% to $3.94 per million British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) is up 2.33% to $32.46. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) is up 0.81% at $9.97.

In mid-day energy news, shares of ConocoPhillips ( COP ) are higher as media reports say the oil major is close to cleaning up the spill in China's Bohai Bay. The company also apologized for the spill and noted that no oil remains on the sea's surface from the spill.

ConocoPhilips shares are up 1.27%, or $0.81, to $64.60.
