Energy shares are lower in mid-day trading while crude oil futures log gains to trade atop $94 a barrel.

Shares of Diamond Offshore Drilling ( DO ) are lower as the company was downgraded to Underweight from Equalweight at Barclays.

DO shares are down 1.5%.

Meanwhile, Exxon Mobil ( XOM ) shares are lower as Bloomberg reports that the U.S. oil major appointed HSBC Holdings ( HBC ) to advise on a $5 billion elastomers project at Jubail in Saudi Arabia, the Middle East Economic Digest reported.

XOM shares are down 0.4%, or $0.37, to $79.79.
