Energy shares finished trading lower as crude oil futures finished trading down under $94 a barrel.
Light, sweet crude oil for September delivery finished down 1.2% to $93.79 a barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil was down 0.3% to $3.08 a gallon while natural gas was down 0.81% to $4.15 per million British thermal units.
In late-session energy news, Marathon Oil ( MRO ) is down 3.59% to $29.54 after it reported Q2 EPS of $0.96, which missed analysts' mean estimate by $0.04.
Analysts on average had expected a profit of $1 per share, ex items, according to data compiled by Thomson Reuters.
Revenue increased by 31.75% from the previous year to $3.68 billion, beating analyst estimates by $890 million.
Meanwhile, Duke Energy ( DUK ) reports Q2 adjusted EPS of $0.33, down from $0.34 a year earlier but beating by 2 cents the Thomson Reuters mean analyst estimate for $0.31. Revenue rose to $3.5 billion. The Street expected $3.3 billion.
Duke Energy shares are down 0.37% to $18.63.
