Sector Update: Energy Shares Higher at Session's Half; Crude Futures Make Fractional Gains

Energy shares are higher in mid-day trading while crude oil futures make fractional gains but still trade below $99 a barrel.

Light, sweet crude oil for January delivery traded up 0.35% to $98.70 a barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil was down 0.45% to $2.91 a gallon while natural gas was down 3.64% to $3.33 per million British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) is up 0.61% to $38.01. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) is down 2.9% to $7.36.

In mid-day energy news, shares of Chevron ( CVX ) are higher while Bloomberg reports the Kazakh oil venture led by the U.S. oil company has returned production to normal rates. The news came after a fire at one of its processing plants, the report said.

CVX shares are up 1.7% $104.02.
