Top Energy Stocks
Energy shares are higher ending into the close, with crude oil futures settling slightly higher Thursday, with the February contract adding 29 cents to settle at $99.65 a barrel, according to preliminary CME data.
Light, sweet crude futures earlier stopped just short of $100 a barrel this morning, only to fall more than $1 negative around mid-day before rallying near the end of floor trade. In other energy futures, heating oil settled at $2.92 a gallon, up 2.4 cents, while natural gas was down over 9 cents at $3.13 per 1 million British thermal units.
In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) is up fractionally just before the bell at $38.40. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) is down 3.3% at $6.555, earlier establishing a new 52-week low at $6.50.
In other energy news, BP ( BP ) is just lower following a Wall Street Journal report saying some of the company's employees may face criminal charges tied to the Deepwater Horizon incident in the Gulf of Mexico that killed 11 people last year.
