Sector Update: Energy Shares Higher; Crude Futures Near $102 a Barrel

Energy shares are higher in mid-day trading while crude oil futures advance to trade near $102 a barrel.

Light, sweet crude oil for January delivery traded up 1.04% to $101.99 a barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil was up 1.46% to $3.03 a gallon while natural gas was down 2.73% to $3.48 per million British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) is up 0.77% to $39.33. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) is down 2.91% to $7.68.

In mid-day energy news, shares of Exxon Mobil ( XOM ) are higher as the U.S. oil major is expected to sign a pact on liquefied natural gas with Qatar tomorrow, Bloomberg reports.

Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson and Qatar's Minister of Energy and Industry Mohammed Bin Saleh Al Sada will be on hand for the signing, the report said.

XOM shares are up 1.42%, or $1.13, to $80.92.
