Sector Update: Energy Shares Flat as Crude Edges Higher

Energy shares traded generally flat in pre-market trade Tuesday as crude oil futures were up.

Light, sweet crude oil for July delivery was up 0.25% at $104.67 per barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil was up 0.02% at $2.89 per gallon while natural gas was down 0.71% at $4.61 per million British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) was flat at $100.19. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) was down 0.86% at $25.49.

In other energy news, PPL Corp. ( PPL ) confirmed it will sell a stake in its electric power subsidiary to Riverstone Holdings LLC. PPL Energy Supply LLC would be spun off and merged with a smaller group of Riverstone-owned power facilities into a company called Talen Energy.

PPL was up 2.4% at $35.05 in pre-market trade with a 52-week range of $28.44 to $35.25.
